Postby davesims » Wed May 23, 2018 1:17 pm

Hi All

I am looking at building this type of still with various bits and pieces Image

The changes i will be makings is the first 2" 500mm section will be changed to 3" and the Deflectometer will also be 3"

Will this work well as a reflux\pot combo?

From what I’ve seen on this forum, Stig you seem knowledgeable, but just saying “ personally I wouldn’t touch it” doesnt pass on ANY of that knowledge, plus I’m inquisitive.

There are things that don’t need to be dragged up about the manufacturer of those stills and their agents from the past :shhh:

If your asking if a still similar to that that you built yourself would work for both pot and reflux, then yes that type of design would work. I would go longer with the packed section though, probably 1mtr and it would need to be packed with copper mesh or the like when you wanted to do neutrals. 500mm unpacked (except a small amount of copper packing for sulfur removal) with out the rc would be fine for a pot still.

I would however steer clear of that manufacturer. If you want a ready made kit look at the 5star gear, much better quality :handgestures-thumbupleft:
