square sight glass

Postby googe » Sat Jan 19, 2013 3:54 pm

Been working on this lately, every still ive seen has round ones and thought there must be other options surely. I'm going to connect it from the inside using similar to pic 1, I'm getting some special mounts mad at work from stainless and will solder a copper frame on the inside to hold it, will be easier to understand when I get the bits. Its going to clamp from the back onto the glass pushing it against a seal between the glass and the column. Any thoughts welcome, good or bad.

i give up , where the hell did you get curved glass. did think about this awhile back having a continuous piece of glass running almost the length of a column , thought about splitting say 4mm copper pipe ,partly flatten it . Then insert some sort of seal fit glass and just solder the frame to the column :handgestures-thumbupleft: would look snazzy hey plu you could very clearly see what was going on there. This was an idea to make a column to test different packing strata's in

In all seriousness googe if you are going to make this consider my suggestion of fitting it externally in some sort of frame. see the thing is the glass will expand and contract at a different amount and at different temps than the copper, so if you fix it solid it will break that is for certain

How would you fix it solid without a clamp?
