advice on stock pot with thin base

Postby studentmoonshiner » Fri Aug 29, 2014 11:18 am

Hi,
I have a chance to get a new stainless steel stock pot for $65 to use in making a reflux still, I think its cheap because the base is only 4mm thick (and 100% stainless steel) do you think this will burn through and be a waste of money or will it survive for a long time?
thanks :)

Go a keg mate. It's what everyone uses, they're cheap, strong, look great polished, and will last a lifetime :handgestures-thumbupleft:

There a reason that 95% of us use kegs... If stock pots were a better option, we'd be using them.

Spend now on the right equipment and save later in the long run, you only want to build a boiler once IMHO.

A legally acquired keg is going to cost more than the stock pot (I hate the stock pot idea) and will see you through, no matter where you end up with still selection.

2c + GST :techie-typing:

With the pot, you'll have to fab up some sort of sealing system, seals, latches, etc
With a keg, you use a flange on your column, a ready made seal and a triclamp to seal the 2 together
The keg is the best choice
