Glass Boka

Postby Swisswa » Thu May 28, 2015 10:56 pm

With Mac's new Boka still out, it inspired me to put together a glass Boka head... because I love the look of glass and stainless together on a still :teasing-neener: I thought it came up nicely and works brilliantly so I thought I'd share it with the rest of you :D

Care to share how you built it?
I'm about to start building my boka and this is something I'd love to do
It was either this or I have a sight glass up at the RC coil

Thanks everyone! Compliments from Mac and The Doctor really means something too :D Funny enough this was just an experiment to see if it would work, the still will be passed on to the old man who can upgrade from his T500 to something a little better and shinier as I have a bubbler! But I can't take all the credit, it was a close friend with some awesome welding skills who put it together :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So are they 5star bits?

No, just stainless parts I sourced locally except for the sight glass which came from ebay. Though Mac may want to use the design later on if he wants? :)) The condenser and take off parts came from 5star though ;-)

Run video please!

Didn't think to get some video footage of it running. Currently got the bubbler fired up so I'll do another run sometime over the long weekend and post it up :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Care to share how you built it?

Sight glass with a 2" to 1" reducer welded inside it with a 3/8" BSP nipple at the base of the reducer for product take off. The deflection plate it slightly over 1" and came from my keg boiler (because of the slight curve in the metal) after we cut a hole for the sight glass, though I'm sure flat metal will work just as well.

Maybe but I know my friend isn't cheap... Cost me many bottles of booze haha

A mad scientist avatar

I am a scientist in everyday life too :D As the years go by I do get a little crazier :laughing-rolling:

nothing like being able to see the action

Ain't that the truth! I love the using glass, seeing is believing! And like with a bubbler the glass fogs up when the alcohol is depleted telling you the run is over!

Just uploaded a small video, hopefully the link works... And apologies in advance for my crappy recording skills!
