Hi

I was wondering if anyone knew of where you can find 2nd hand water tanks. I am looking for something in the range of 500L to 1000L (depends on price). A slimline tank would be even better

i used to deliver for teampoly and we had 2nds tanks in the yard... just rock up to a local tank manufacturer and ask.... you might get a bargain... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

they sometimes had wee holes (easy to patch) or some monkey had drilled the outlets in the wrong spot (just buy a bung!) :laughing-rolling:

Second hand 1,000L IBCs can be had for as little as $25. Are they too big for you?

I looked at them and the only issue was not being able to get the submersible water pump in through the hole/lid. I ideally want it to be sealed so I can keep the water for longer (without it growing mold/fungus etc)

Does anyone know the diameter of the cap?

Just found a replacement lid site and apparently they are 150mm in diameter.

Buy an external transfer pump to connect to the IBC tap. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I drilled two holes in the lid for the hose's and used a hacksaw to cut a notch out of the lid for the pump lead. The lid is strong enough to have a notch cut out and still do up tight.

The issue is that the lid is 150mm in diameter and the submersible pumps are normally around 200mm - 250mm in diameter... so it wont fit.

I cut half of the existing 150mm opening much bigger to allow for the submersible pump to go in.
You then simply sit the cut-out section back in place and start threading the 150mm cap back on, the cap will hold it up for you :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I just got out the angle grinder and hacked it open, your right it wont fit the ozito 750 watt but its been there 6 months now with ~200ml bleach n it still isnt growing anything.
Its really not hard to keep the water clear.

200ml bleach in there once - or regularly?

I only put it on there once so far, the water doesnt come in contact with anything. No different to using a spa or pool. and these days probably less then whats in the tap

So the top of the IBC is open? Not enclosed

Where's it going to go? Lots of IBC's aren't UV stabilized and the plastic rapidly deteriorates in the sun. Just a heads up, if you get one that's already a couple of years old, you might find it's falling apart by the end of summer if it's sitting outside.

It will be inside my shed which will have the roof and sides insulated (air-cell rolls)

I dosed my tank with pool algaecide and chlorine (and possibly something else) once at the time of filling.
This tank is outside on a bush block with lots of trees nearby...it could use a little screen to stop the odd leaf from falling in.

I think I am gonna go with the IBC and an external transfer pump. sub $200 for tank and pump is good in my books

Just be careful guys running chlorine through your still.
