Yer i was dubious of this at first but councils apply 4mg/L which over the whole IBC(0.004 x 1000) is 4g of chlorine and coles bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite 40g/L and i only use 200 ml which is 8 g ;-) If its guna affect the copper I think house be falling apart everywhere. Plus chlorine without a stabilizer and uv light will almost guarantee that there wont be any left the next day unless you add more. Its effective at removing the algae then if you wait a day the chlorine will be gone and your right til it builds algae again.

Keep in mind that we are talking non-product contact side of your still.
If your cooling water is getting into contact with your drinking product you have bigger problems to worry about than a hundred ppm of chlorine.

Yer jsut saying once its diluted in ibc its not far off drinking water and depending how old the chlorine is on the shelf it could be a lot weaker

Yeah fair enough if it's a real low dilution.

Also I would be more concerned about stainless than copper ;-)

You would probably die from the fumes before you made a chlorine mix strong enough to affect copper tube

So the short answer is: In a 1000L tank I can use a small amount of either chlorine or bleach to help keep the algae away?

This will be safe to use through my still (5 Start 4" Pot)

I use both chlorine and algaecide, you can pick up small bottles of each from any pool supplier or Bunnings.
Short answer is yes.

I've not changed the water in a year or more and I've only ever dosed it once at the start and there's no growth in the tank. The outside looks crap, you get that when it lives outside and near trees.
