I don't think these are meant to be totally immersed.

It might be ok for a 25L but I think I would need something a bit beefier for 160L

Thermal mass will be big so it wont loose heat fast and it will have a lot of heat early but once its nearly done it will take a little bit to keep it heated if its too cold. maybe something small to heat 160l is all you need. Im thinking it may hold temp well in beginning with the yeast producing heat then as it begins to slow switch to the heating method you have at beginning, before you really need it so its just trying to hold a temp, not raise to a temp. You could wrap it in blankets or sleeping bag to provide some insulation also. I used to always wrap mine in 10 000 towels :)) Just ideas anyway. The immersion heater you have may be alright but hey ive never used nor seen one before so i wouldnt know.

Aquarium heater will be you cheapest and easiest option a 300w unit is rated for up to 300l.

I suggest a stainless steel unit over glass as the glass ones can be fragile.

I ferment in 120l blue water storage wheelie bins with some glad wrap and had no issues
