glasser seals - which silicone mat?

Postby toil » Mon May 02, 2016 9:32 pm

I am planning on building a glasser and want some advice about what silicone mat to buy for making seals. I figure thicker is better. It seems that most of them on ebay are either 0.1 mm thick or there is no thickness given. there is one that is 0.3 mm thick and so I'm thinking about buy this one:

Interested in the thoughts and experiences of others on this.

Don't know exactly about these but I bought cheap silicone mats from eBay, and it turned out they were not 100%!silicone as discribed and were full of fillers. Only way to tell is to twist one tight and if it goes white, it's no good. If it stays the same original colour it's 100%

Coles is now selling silicon mats. They are all a bit thin I reckon, so I use two together and have no problems with leaks now.
I got mine from Target last year, so you can look there if you like. They sold for $5 or $6 I think. They cut easy with normal scissors.

Old post I know - but I'm new here...

I buy my silicon sheet from Clarkes rubber. All food grade and different thicknesses and pretty good price too.

You can also use triclover seals, 5star sell silicone ones and the glass sits on the inner flat diameter, seals up nicely.

This is what matters. Not the cheapness.
