Say Hi and introduce yourself

Greetings from Orange, NSW

Postby Orange Noob » Fri Aug 22, 2014 3:41 pm

Hi Y'all I'm Mike, I'm from Orange, I'm 41 and I'm an alcoholic. :greetings-waveyellow:
I've been brewing beer for about 20 years, progressing from bottles to kegs a good ten years ago, and have recently decided to branch into spirits. I'm thinking of using my keg and font setup to run premix drinks through instead of beer - I'm a little bored with brewing beer atm.
That's pretty much why I'm here. I've put down my first wash and distilled it through the last week - it's currently running through the carbon filter, so tonight should be the first go. I'm hoping it pays off, because I convinced the little lady to buy the still, as she likes the JD, so hopefully she'll be impressed this evening with our first bottle.
I thank the Admin for creating this site, and allowing me to join, and I'd like to thank everyone in advance for their help, tips and input to this forum.

Cheers
:handgestures-thumbupleft:

G'day mate, I hope your opening line was a joke ;-)

Was your first wash a turbo variety?

Welcome to the forum Orange N.
Id never heard of a Black Maximus still until I just googled it. No doubt you've been sold all the usual stuff that comes with a HBS still.
The best advise i can give you is to find the Newbies Corner section of the forum and read as much as you can, you have a big learning curve ahead, and its not a high speed curve.....slow and sure will win the race.
One of the first and most important steps to making good booze starts here viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2859.
Sam has already mentioned Turbo yeast, I'm also guessing that was your choice of yeasts, There are much better choices in that department, you can find better recipes for washes suited to your still in the "tried and proven" section.

Welcome mate! You've found the right place for getting into distilling.. Oh and I'm in orange too :greetings-waveyellow: We don't have a HBS (home brew shop) here, but you don't need one with all the recipes and info on this forum.... Read, read, read!
