Hello

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Hello

Postby Bernie » Fri Dec 19, 2014 7:48 pm

Just a quick hello.

I am based in England & started brewing a year ago.

Bought an Airstill & 2 weeks later bought a Turbo 500.

So far I have only used Turbo yeasts & sugar washes. Started with Alcotec & then moved to SS Triple D. I have never made cuts, just ditched the 1st 100ml & kept the rest. I have been relatively happy with what I have got, but wanted even less taste & smell than I was getting.

I have literally just started my 1st TPW & added the yeast about 5 minutes ago. Reading this forum I am hopefully onto the next improvement.

Bernie.

hey bernie cobber, do some cuts and have a good smell and taste of the tails, this was enough to convince me to listen to everyone on this forum and give up turbos for good.

Results from my 1st TPW.

Started with a 23litre wash.
After 1st distillation I got 2.7 litres of spirit, T500 @ about 65 degrees.
After 2nd distillation I finished with;
100ml foreshots.
500ml heads.
2 litres of hearts & tails. I couldn't taste any difference between the hearts & tails. I do however have the slight liquorice taste that a couple of others have mentioned.
I made 250ml cuts. T500 @ about 54 degrees.

One happy bunny. :D

welcome.
my tip would be to leave the cuts for 24-48 hours and taste at 35%. you will definitely notice a difference between hearts and tails then :)

I left the cuts for 23 hours & used 1tsp alcohol to 2tsp water for tasting.
