Hi everyone new to distilling but am enjoying it alot

Postby daxter4034 » Fri Apr 03, 2020 7:55 am

Good morning everyone i'm new to this hobby but so far i'm enjoying it. I'm going to upgrade from my beginner setup hopefully in the next few months to something that can do bigger batches 4l at a time is a bit annoying. hoping to learn how to make incredible rum then branch off into other spirits but i'm already impressed with what i've made so far, can't believe i used to spend $50 ($188 being the most) up on fancy rum when its so cheap to make just have to perfect the way i do it.

Reason: Moved the $ signs around, it was annoying me

Welcome aboard :greetings-waveyellow:

Yep I reckon 4ltr runs would get frustrating :laughing-rolling: Look around for a keg for a boiler then put a simple pot on top. 5 star do good pots or you can build one fairly simply.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
If you save up what you would have spent at the bottleo or convince the missus of the savings then go straight and buy a 4” modular pot. :music-deathmetal:

Welcome to AD daxter.

There are a number of upgrade paths open to you depending on your budget, how much room you have to distill in and how much rum you want to make.

Here are some ideas (assuming you want to buy rather than build of course):
  • 25 litre boiler with a 2" pot still. Good if you're on a limited budget, don't have much room to run in or only want to run 20ish litre washes
  • 50 litre boiler with a 4" pot still (either a milk can or a converted keg). A bit more expensive but greatly increases your volume
  • 50 litre boiler with a 4" bubbler. The most expensive option but greatly increases your volume and has single run capabilites

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.
