G'day All from FNQ

Postby SJC » Mon Jan 06, 2014 8:54 am

G'day All,

Thought was time to join :happy-partydance:
I live up in FNQ and when the fish aren't biting or the crabs aren't running had some spare time on my hands.
Starting out with the T500. Wish I had of found this site before cashing in on the T500 as I love the RUM. Not the HBS essences so much.
All in All it I cant complain as I found a great hobby to sustain my fav past time sitting by the pool sipping on a few cold one's.

Got my first Turbo wash away and was hooked straight up not so much on the taste and smell. Looked into it a bit more and found Bridwatches TPW and haven't looked back. So for now it's practising and learning mainly the cuts and sampling of course until the minister for finance is ready to loosin the budget for a new toy..

Thanks for the add, This is a great site with so much info

Happy Stillin

Welcome mate, it sounds like you're well on the way to making some quality product :)

You should be able to buy or a build a pot head for your T500 boiler, for stripping runs and making rum/whiskey :handgestures-thumbupleft:

SJC not long back I tried a white rum made by another member which had been run through a reflux still. It still retained a fair bit of rum flavour.
I been thinking ever since that it should be possible with a little fiddling and experience to make a reasonable rum using a T500.
You wouldn't have a lot to lose by chucking a rum wash together and seeing what you get, I have been thinking about dragging the old T500 out and having a go myself just for the hell of it. Make good cuts, keep half white, oak the other half and you might just get something you like.

Thanks all for the Welcome,

Been going through the info on here bloody hell there is a lot of it.
I'm gonna keep with the T500 for now but have 2 50L kegs here at the moment that the local pub handed over for a feed of Muddies.
Ones just been cut and made into a camp fire / BBQ / Rotisserie to keep the Mrs happy but the other has Boiler written all over it.

I've made a few of macs rums through my t500 and they work ok. Still a bit of flavor and she smooths off after oaking. I would think the macwhisky would work ok in the same manner (quite a strong wash) TPW and weetbix washes are also winners with the t500, I belive the more experienced guys use a pot head to strip then redistill with great results. Enjoy mate and keep your eyes and ears open, you have come to the perfect place :handgestures-thumbupleft:
