Was also thinking of getting a bucket buddy from Kegland as it has the built in heater and I will be able to put it out in the garage then, good idea or not?

I ran TPW at 26-30degC, lowans bakers yeast will handle higher temps as well.

Don't worry about all the mumbo jumbo extra shit, I run 30W heater belts. 1 for a 30ltr fermenter and 2 for a 60ltr fermenter, if you want to get fancy plug em into a power board and run them through a power controller. Hotter the ambient the lower voltage and vice versa, you'll get a feel for it and be able to dial in voltage to suit overnight and daily temperatures accordingly. Just remember the hurry up and wait phrase for better quality product and time your ferments to finish when you have time, a couple of extra days will aid in settling and get you away from that aweful turdbo clear crap.

Cheers

How much more neutral does settling make it? Have never bothered much or degassed and the spirit (tpw)disappears in anything its mixed with

Let it settle without stirring it. Transfer to the still then run it.

Sorry to burst in on BillyG's post, but I'm really curious about this Yurugaboy:

I'm a complete pleb when it comes to voltage and devices. If I attach a power controller (via power board) is there any conditions (eg: voltage too low) that will kill my heat belts? During warmer periods I connect my heat belts via a std powerpoint timer through the night to flick on briefly, then off. I'm very excited to hear that a power controller can provide a lower, steady warmth rather than 100% heat.

Heat belts are purely resistive and as such there is no limit to how low you can go, Ohms law applies and the controller displays the voltage. Go for it.

Hi- I use a power controller for 1 of my 2 - 2.4kws elements in my boiler. Heat belts can be adjusted by moving them high or low . I don’t power control heat belts- time clock is low wattage. The wash can be made hotter or less hot by strapping the belt high or down low.

I ran the TPW over the weekend, after 100mls of fore’s, I got 12 jars at 200mls each out of the run.
The first 3 & the last 3 have gone into feints bottle & the 6 hearts are in another bottle.
Feints are at 90% ABV & the hearts are at 92%. the 4th & 6th jar I was a little unsure of, but they went in the hearts mix anyway. Next time I may keep them out & they can go in the feints.
What a deference making cuts does, I was blown away,
I put another TPW on to ferment while I was waiting for the Still to do its job.
One question though, I put the yeast in at 40deg, all seems to be going ok, just asking.

Bakers yeast is very forgiving on temperature, if it started it’ll be fine. Pitch a little lower for piece of mind in future

Cheers

Hi Billy

Bit less sugar mate, 15% is really pushing it for making neutral (most washes really), the 10% of the first one is plenty.

The harder you push it, the more the yeast will throw off flavours. You will then loose booze in the cuts and overall yield per kg of sugar will drop.

Kinda difficult on the t500, but doing fast stripping runs, then knocking that back to 20-40% for the spirit run will give you even better results :handgestures-thumbupleft:
