gas fired

I am off grid and I am told solar won't be enough power for a 50l keg fitted with a T500.
So I may have to use gas as a heating source, any recommendations.

If you want to stay off grid have a look at producer gas there are plans on the Internet they used it during world war 2 to run cars cut down a lot of trees..

Moved this to the welcome centre being your first post, welcome :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You will want the biggest burner you can get with a high pressure reg to speed up stripping and cut down heat up time.

Also be aware that gas does have it's disadvantages, ie if you spill product near the flame, well.......

Good idea to have your still plumbed so that the offtake is well away from the heat source :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Also don't go running it in an enclosed space that isn't well ventilated :-B

I found the kegking with HP reg to be a good buy, super sturdy nice high stand and under 150 bucks.boils a keg of water in no time at all.
Heat up time must be so much quicker than electric, as I have read so many threads about how slow heat up can take. Maybe in wrong with that statement but seems to sound that way. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I see the specs say boil 30 litres of water in under 30 minutes when in actual fact you can boil 50 litres in under 25 mins. Just sayin :handgestures-thumbupleft:
The stockpot model looks awesome for height for pot still, maybe not so good for the tall bubblers though as roof height seems to be an issue at times.

I have a 2 ring burner, and it takes about an hour 10 mins to first drips, from a 40L wash in 50L keg. Looking to upgrade shortly to 3 or 4 ring

Yes those stockpot (Rambo) burners are quick but they sound like a rocket - not something you want the neighbours looking over the fence to see what is going on with aromas etc. I have heard stories of the fuzz turning up to peoples houses on reports of what seemed like a meth lab house only to find an avid craft brewer in his garage!

I have a 4 ring burner and it used to boil ~70L of beer wort in about 30 mins with very little noise.

I sit my keg on a few bricks with my 3 ring burner under it. Low pressure reg. Then place my custom made steel protective insulator sheath over the top. Cuts down on heating time heaps.

Mate has the blichmann Enginnering hellfire which he uses as a crab cooker, it's as quite as a mouse also but is not Australia standard approved. Not a good idea for insurance if ya burnt the house down though lol :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use 4ring burner with normal reg, heats just under 50l in about 45-50 min. I have put some thick washes in with no scorching but if u only doing racked sugar heads then I'd use the hp reg for faster heating times. A bit of extra thought is needed in ur setup for gas, eliminate the risks and it's a safe way to go :handgestures-thumbupleft:

if u can boil 70 lit in 30 mins.... i would be surprised if you could better that. I run 5kw in a 25lit wash and it takes around 30, which i am happy with.

I have ordered a 35l stainless steel boiler and a 4 ring gas burner to go with my T500.
Question : after the wash heats up and starts dripping, should you turn the heat down

almost certainly. dont have a t500, but I have the feeling that throwing a 4-ring burner kind of full power at it, will easily overpower it and the stuff will be coming out everywhere.

I am off grid,I have a T500 and a 35 litre boiler. i did use a 2kw honda generator but it did not put out enough power.
the idea is to use the 4ring gas burner to heat up and then turn it down to 2 ring ? Any suggestions or comments

Do you have insulation on the boiler would think that the heat up would be slow but when up to temperature 2kw would be enough power .

The honda generator really only puts out 1.6kw and takes 2hours to heat 20 litres. I need to use gas but I don't want to overheat

the output power of the generator isnt relevant as long as it is more than the heating element. Whats the rated power of the heating element connected to it ?
