What to do?

Hi Folks.

Hoping some of you legends can help me.

Currently have a 3v system and want to make a malt wash for distilling - No problem there.
I have a Pure Distilling Reflux Stilll and I'm looking to use the boiler and swapping the reflux with a pot still condenser. Sound ok?

So my research has me deciding between:
The Keggomax or the Pure Distilling pot still (are these the same? they look the same)
The Still Spirits Copper Alembic Dome and Condenser.
The 5 Star Distilling 4" Modular Pot Still.

I'm happy to go with the 5 Star Distilling 4" Modular Pot Still if it will give me a better final product, or should I go with the cheaper options if the difference isn't really noticeable?

Pro's and cons appreciated.

Go the 5star 4" modular. It can be upgraded to a bubbler. If you like a drink eventually you will want a bubbler..

Mate, with your beer brewing experience the FSD pot still is the go, you will soon outgrow the other condensers. FSD gear is built to last and modular, once you are comfortable using it, you can upgrade as you can. That's what I did, pretty sure you will get the bubbler bug. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Bluc beat me to it :laughing-rolling:

Welcome mate, I've moved your post to the welcome centre as it's your first, so, welcome here :handgestures-thumbupleft:
As for the next step, it's all about how much you want to put in and how much you want to get out.
I simple home built 2" pot still on a keg is the cheapest and most simple still you can find, but it does have limitations.
Like suggested, starting with an FSD modular pot means you can continue to evolve and upgrade if you want.
All in all, what do you like to drink?

Just hang in for a few more months :geek:

Check in on AussieD five times a day :ugeek:

Make sure you re-read all the posts about blokes producing quality Spirit for a song

I guarantee you'll wake in the middle of the night screaming the name of the Still you want :laughing-rolling: 8-}

PS: Or just buy 'em all. Tell the bride their a tax dodge and you've kept the receipts....but it's just that you can't claim them back until the end of the next financial year...."it's money in the bank, love" :)) :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Welcome mate.

What size is your boiler? If it's a small urn style boiler you will struggle to get the FSD 4" modular pot on it and not have it topple over.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome mate.

If you're making AG beer you're obviously in it for quality. Eventually you will want a bubbler, and if you start with a five star pot you'll be on your way to a bubbler.

You could build a support for the pot head.to stop toppling over or clamp down the boiler.

Hi All.

Awesome, thanks for the info.
I had a feeling your advise would point me towards the FDS 4".

Its the 25 litre Still Spirits with enclosed element, I'm not sure if this is the best way to go or not.
Like my brewery, iv'e slowly added to it over the years so I hope this urn will do the job with the 4" FST on it.

Whiskey is my first choice.
Don't mind a decent rum either.

Make your own 2 Inch pot still.
Cheap and easy to build and run and with a voltage controller you will make an awesome drop that you will be happy to share with family and friends.

Pot's a good start but if you wanna make great booze and your gonna be in the hobby for a long time to come you'll want a bubbler, hence people suggesting the fsd modular pot.

Looks like FDS are out of stock for the 4" pot still so I've used the web contact page to ask when they're expecting more stock.

On the FSD site, they have a T500 adaptor, does anyone know if this will fit my Still Spirits 25 litre lid?

I still think the 4" pot is a bad match for a T500 boiler. Might be best to ring FSD and discuss it with either Allan or Sue.

Prof. Green.
