Im 57 years young and a single malt scotch man & gin martini's (shaken) lol
had a friend give me a 1 ltr bottle of home bourbon and was blown away at how smooth it was!

So scotch for me (easy essence) for now and maybe try a gin.

Should get the gear next week

Looking forward to catching up with some people around Perth :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

Welcome to AD mate.

:text-+1: on simple pot for whiskey (I think you'll be disappointed with essences). Add an element power controller to that and you'll be making a top notch drop.
Don't be tempted by the T500 Alembic Pot, it's not worth the money.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

2" pot? please explain...
I'm pretty handy with making stuff etc and have all the tools to do so.

I'm excited already and have only been reading up on this hobby :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

Check out the pot still section for ideas http://aussiedistiller.com.au/viewforum.php?f=7, pelican pot still is popular. Basically a 2inch pipe with a condenser on the end :handgestures-thumbupleft: keep modular in mind especially your condenser as it can be re used on a bubbler down the track..

So the T500 showed up today, went over it and put together.
Has stainless saddles for packing and of course copper at the top.

Been looking for stainless scourers all day and did not find any at Bunnings :angry-banghead: or coles etc.
Thinking the existing ones will do for now until I find some.

Was thinking of changing the plastic tube on the top of the condenser to copper? anyone validate this as a good move? also copper for
the distillate line as mentioned on here.

Have all the ingredients for a TPW wash and will start in a few days time. using all that was recommended on here.

Will keep reading........ :-B

Copper scrubbers are not easy to find. If you got to a commercial cleaner outlet you may find some there, but they won't be cheap.

Give 5 star a call and grab yourself some copper mesh. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

In the meantime, you can use the the stainless saddles that came with the unit, they'll work fine.

G’day mate and welcome, I ran a t500 for a couple of years, it’s not a bad rig, just slow.
Definitely replace the plastic tube but the stainless saddles will be fine :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yep have read through your post 10 times lol, will be following it step by step.
The plastic tube I’m referring to is the one small loop on the top of the condenser
I was going to use some small copper pipe 5/16

The loop of plastic tube at the top just carries condenser water. I think if you try to solder copper up there you'll melt the other plastic parts. Doubleuj is referring to the plastic pipe that comes with the T500 and connects to the spirit outlet to deliver it to your collection vessels.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Ah I see now.... thought it might be something to do with the spirits, so wont bother then.
I have a piece of copper for the outlet ready.
cheers for the info

So got home from work and put a wash together.
Used the stuff that came with the T500 as will use it as a clean/practise run and
wont be concerned about chucking it out :laughing-rolling:

Once it is ready ( a week?) will run it and get a feel for how it all comes together.
Then will put a TPW on and hopefully have some "gear" ready for Xmas!

fingers crossed!

Hi Oldhoon,
I am also Perth (North of River) with a brand new copper T500.

Did you do anything special with respect to cleaning prior to your first run ?
How did you first run turn out ?
Did you just do a sacrificial run as your first run or did you end up drinking it ?

Cheers
