Gidday from the other island

Hey there, just saying Hi from Auckland on the other Aussie island, New Zealand. Recently started brewing and building. Done about six sugar washes so far some still spirits pure turbo then after being on nzhomedistillers found TFFV teddies fast fermenting vodka which I have seen around here as well having two of those down at present and one already stripped. Built a reasonably nice boka with 1100mm of SPP packing which is performing nicely. Enjoying the vodka and gin I've been making so far about to start stretching out into other territories.

Show us your...packing.

Welcome, that sounds like a lot of SPP.
You make it your self or purchase it?

I got it from Poland it takes about 2 litres of SPP, runs fast and pure. Hopefully you can see the video from my YouTube channel.

Not a silly question at all, SPP spiral prismatic packing is used in a reflux still in place of the stainless steel pot scrubbers commonly used by home distillers. It is like thousands of very tiny stainless springs about 5mm x 4mm with almost square corners rather than a continuous spiral.

It when used correctly far more efficient than scrubbers. End result is much much faster takeoff still at 95%+ purity. I can get 100ml in 4 minutes easily, more of a slow stream than a drip

It's harder to get hold of or make so it's often very expensive, mine came from Poland.

The application it was developed for was heavy water production by the Soviet Union during the cold war but since the size and shape has been perfected for alcohol distilling. Will try to find some good links to information about it.

Thanks, I'm happy with how it ended up looking and working, wrapping is from local plumbers it's designed as insulation tube for 50mm pipes up to 140 deg C so it was perfect, was a bit hard case carrying a two meter length on the bus home however
