Hello to all

Postby Oldbowler » Fri Dec 29, 2017 5:11 am

Hi, I am very pleased to have found this forum. I am in Central Victoria and have been keenly reading the many topics covered.

I have been home brewing for thirty years and this is my first foray into distilling. I started with an air still and produced around 9 batches over many, many long hours! As usual, I dived in without doing much research. Your information has helped me to avoid a near purchase online of inferior equipment and I now own a pure distilling rig and have added a stainless steel packed extension. It is so very easy to use after getting a lot of info from here.

My favorite drink is whisky and to date I have been flavoring neutral with the many essences available. I am in the middle of building my first copper 2 inch pot still with a liebig condenser and look forward to experimenting with recipes from this site and ageing.

Thanks to all for this site and the wonderful information contained.

Cheers,
Oldbowler.

Hi Prof,

yes, read all about soft soldering on the site and did a bit of research and found this design online. Thought it would be a good project before I started my pot still build. Just as well it is in the background as the soldering is rough. Showed the missus and she was so impressed she thought when I had passed she could put a candle or two in it at Christmas time. (Wow high praise and so helpful) But it doesn't leak and it does the job.

Just waiting on a tri clamp to arrive so I can solder my pot still parts. Am going to try a whisky recipe from the tried & proven tomorrow as I have just ordered some oak domino's.

I like to think that I am passionate about this, not addicted.
