Hi from WA

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Hi from WA

Postby Stevejb » Mon Feb 12, 2018 10:26 am

Hello All,

I joined this forum a few weeks ago and have been reading a lot - there's a treasure trove of info here. I am particularly interested in making Bourbon and Whiskey, among other things. The method detailed in the book "Making Pure Corn Whiskey" by Ian Smiley interests me and I would like to try that. I haven't made any final decisions about which type of still to get yet, but I will soon. Making one will be a challenge as I live in a unit.

I did some distilling around 12 years ago but had to give it up due to illness (luckily not alcohol related!) and am looking forward to getting back into it.

I am currently living about 3 hours south of Perth so there's not much stuff available locally.

Anyway, that's enough babbling from me - just wanted to say "Hi".

Cheers,
Steve

Welcome. :handgestures-thumbupleft: Your going to want a pot still or a bubbler for whiskey/rum etc. With a bubbler you can also make neutral. Lots to read so dont rush in until your sure on still type. You can always by one of macs modular pot stills and then by bits a bit at a time to make a bubbler..hope you enjoy your stay :handgestures-thumbupleft:

G’day & Welcome Steve. I’m south coast WA and have decided to build a modular bubbler. Yep I can testify there’s slim pickings about in the form of second hand copper. You should try the little cal plumbers for any decent off cuts of pipe. Even living in a unit, you’ll be able to put together a nice pot still head by just using over the counter fittings with a gas powered keg you’ll be up and going in no time. Check out the builds then the tried & proven recipes, the you’ll have a good idea what still you’ll need. Good luck.
