Hi guys,

Really good site. Pretty new to distillation. I've surprised myself by making some really good gin, but I want to try rum now and I'm back to the drawing board. I've quickly realised my alembic T500 (for the rum) will be over-powered, so I'm in the process of building a power controller. I've got some questions about how I turn larger batch recipes like Pugirum into something my 25L Still can handle (but that's for another post in the correct board).

Cheers to you all :-D

JT

Welcome JayTee.

The power controller will help the overpowering issue for sure.

The standard pugirum recipe is for 10 gallons which is approx. 37 litres. You will want some headroom in the boiler as rum tends to foam a lot and you don’t want it foaming up into your condenser. I would ferment a batch as per the recipe and then distill it in two seperate batches.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.
