Howdy from SA. Been running a pure distilling relfux for a year now using the TPW to produce the neutral to which i usually soak with charred oak and vanilla pods. This forum was recommended as I wish to investigate stepping up a level to the use of pot still with traditional flavored washes. So here to read and learn and improve on my hobby

Nah not doing cuts yet, but something I will be looking into when a get more of a station set up in my shed... atm, just doing straight runs..... going to do some reading on the cuts, get my head around it maybe invest in a cheap parrot then move to the pot.

Hope you at least remove foreshots...cuts is what seperates awesome spirit from crap..

Ive been running a pure distilling reflux and a pot and i cant stress enought the importance of doing cuts, regardless of type of still.
I've got a mate that makes vodka and I've been trying to encourage him to do cuts, but he still doesnt. He makes some rare stuff i tell you... especially when you know what it should taste like.
You wont get it perfect for a start, but it doesnt take long to work out where you personally draw the line in the sand for what is drinkable and whats not.

Welcome mate.
Give cuts a go mate you won't regret it. For a start be harsh, if in doubt chuck it out. You won't loose any product as what you cut out (except fores, throw them) can be put back in the boiler with the next run. Even if you just took the middle 3rd for a start just to try it and see the difference.

- equipment: 4 plate 6" copper bubbler, 6 plate 4" glass bubbler with 500mm packed section three way thumper sitting on a 50 ltr keg boiler with 6000watts, 2" pot still and a 2" boka.

:text-+1: on all the recommendations on cuts above. You'll end up with a much better product in the end.
FWIW, I usually end up only keeping 45-50% of the run as hearts on my neutrals.
