Hi everyone and thanks for letting be apart of grand masters and master distillers. I’m new to distilling and reading up on as much information as I can. I’m purchasing a T500 and I’m a huge rum lover. Looking for a basic rum wash and good guidance.

Welcome mate, There's a heap to learn on here, have a good go through the newbie section.
If you want to make real rum and not add an essence from a home brew shop to neutral from the t500, you should look at a pot still or bubbler :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You can run a t500 with out the packing, but there are many better options. If a diy one is not on the cards, Mac's modular pot still is a great place to start, you can add a packed section and deflag for neutrals or a plated section for higher Abv rum/bourbon
Your still looking at some diy for a keg boiler, but you will be way ahead of the t500

Gday Mags, welcome here.
RC AL, you cannot run a t500 without the packing, the plastic top will melt. :violence-stickwhack:

Welcome aboard CSA,
If you love rum then a simple pot still or even a bubbler if your budget will allow is what you want, the t500 only makes neutral alcohol.

G'day mate and welcome aboard :greetings-waveyellow:

WJ is right, don't run a t500 without packing.

Neutrals and essences will be ok for a start but like so many before you they get sick of them and end up going for a pot or bubbler. Don't get me wrong the T500 will make a good neutral but if rum is what your after a pot would be a much better investment. There's nothing wrong with having both if you want though. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Welcome CSAMags.

:text-+1: on woodducks advice. If you haven't already splashed your cash on the T500, have a look at the pot still options open to you (5 Star is a great place to start). There's some great rum recipes in the recipe section and I can recommend Mac's Rum Recipe - it's dead simple and makes a nice rum.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome.... whatever still youve got will teach you plenty! be a bit prepared tho, you will (in your distilling career) have several and each will teach you new and tasty lessons.

Dont however assume that we are all experts, learning we all are young grasshopper!

Also remember that we were all new once too.

cheers redux. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Can't agree more professor :handgestures-thumbupleft:
It also scales up nicely too 200 litres as well, 20 litres molasses, 20kg raw sugar and 200litre total volume.
