Thanks everyone for a warm welcome.....some forums are not so polite to you.....no names !
I need a bit of advice, please.....no answer to be found...so,
I am doing TPW & FFv, great stuff, and cuts with my spectrometer, since my nose is not fine tuned yet.
So question....how do I know, what I make is not....well...up to scracth ? I understand taste is subjective, but
only comparison is the commercial stuff. If like my own beer ,IMHO no offence, no comparison to theirs stuff, I would never go back
to commercial beer, fine for some of you, so don't get offended.
Coming originally from Denmark I like Schnapps/Akavavit......water of life....no problem I know the taste, and how to do
but when it comes to others, how do you people judge, whether good or not ??
I checked my clear double distilled against Absolute Vodka.......to me....bias like my own best.
Bourbon I bought a small sample, 5 Dollars hmm, :text-thankyoublue: and well hard to tell which is best, same with Port from Still Spirits

So long story short.......how do you judge your own products ??
Thanks in advance
Chris

G'day mate.
Easiest way to judge: if you like it, who cares what others think! It's like your beer. Make what you like. you will never make an exact clone of a commercial spirit IMHO. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Its very subjective, one mans nectar is an others ass juice....
If your making cuts, your already doing about the best you can without more experience.
This puts you ahead of pretty much anything shop bought under $50 a bottle, the distilleries simply cant afford to cut the way we do

Equipment aside, your final taste will depend upon the recipe used, theres a big taste difference between tpw and wbab, I prefer the wbab the missus likes the tpw. One thing I'm going to try - playing with the amount of tomato paste used in tpw, I suspect my not the most frequently cleaned gutters contribute some nutrients to my tank water (I seem to get consistently high yields over different recipes), so i will try and cut back on the paste to reduce the yeast's "unconsumed" portion and thereby reduce the amount of tomato flavour left - this really is a "cooking" hobby lols

If you feel comfortable giving people a sample then its "good enough" ??

How/what dose this spectrometer thingy work/ look like?

Give a bit to your mates... if they come back for more or try and sneak a bottle home you know it must be alright!

Thanks for the reply all, I suppose pretty obvious, but I had to ask.
Bubu its that, how its you spell it ?? Its not ......Spectrometer....its refractometer......sorry old age hm
for spirits, work great, so I don't need a lot in the
in the test jar. Sorry you properly all knew !!

Another question if you don't mind......how to get the grain taste into the final product ???
Tried soaking in Weetbix 75% for 4 dayes.....nothing, I know,
you can get Still Spirit Grain in a bottle, but not
my idea of doing it.....so any help Please !!

Thanks Chris

Refractometer wont give you your cut points only abv. Taste and smell is the go for doing cuts.
Spectergraph on other hand can anylyse material and give you amount of different substances in a substance.

If you mean a grain tasting neutral, then wheatbix/all bran wash (WBAB) will fit the bill
