Howdy

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Howdy

Hi All,

Thanks for welcoming me into the forum. I've been brewing beer for a while and have been giving serious consideration to giving distilling a go. I'm not a big drinker, so small scale for the fun of it is the plan. That's the same approach I currently take with beer. Small batches so I can actually brew more regularly. That said, I have a 20L Braumeister, so the first thing on the agenda is searching this forum for any info about using a Braumeister for distilling, like can be done with a Grainfather.

I don't expect I'll have much to contribute much here in the near future, but it looks like there's a lot of good reading to help inspire me whichever way I end up going.

Thanks,
Steve

I might be aiming high, but I'm mainly interested in trying my hand at small barrel (or wood chips etc) dark rum. Maybe whiskey as well, but I'm mainly a rum drinker. I like the idea of doing a few batches with added flavoring from time to time, but as I don't drink much, I have plenty of time (and patience) to try my hand at something a bit more "hand made". For beers, I mainly stick with dark Belgian style ales which also let me get a bit creative, and I enjoy sampling the affect that time has on the finished product.

I started with rum when i got my pot still going. I used Macrum in the tried and proven section. Turned out awesome... still drinking some of it. It will be 2 year old in a few months. Aging is key to making well made spirits, great spirits ive found. There is a lot to be experimented with using different oaks ie french/ american ,toasted, chared or straight oak. Keep reading and you'll soon work out which way your gonna head. Good luck! :handgestures-thumbupleft:
