Hi All,

Just thought I'd say hello.

Currently I've got an electric brewery setup for making beer, and I thought I'd diversify as I can mash grains with it to make whisky with.

I understand a pot still is the ideal choice for whisky as it doesn't strip all of the flavour out (though more work). I've got plenty of reading to do on the forum before I go and buy/do anything though, as I need to get up to scratch on processes and equipment.

Looking forward to getting into a new hobby :)

Daniel

Thanks everyone :)

Up until recently, I've been mashing in an insulated plastic water cooler and boiling on gas (for brewing). I'm putting the final touches on the electric setup (which I've been building for a few years in my spare time) which means I can just set the mash temperature to consistently get what I want.

Would love to go electric as well for distilling.

Cheers. It's taken me just over four years of spare cash and spare time to get to this point though!

71L. Maximum capacity is about 40L once you account for the grain, plus the head space required for boiling.

I'm keen on a pot still with an electric element. From what I read on this forum, 5 star distilling seems the way to go, but their site isn't online...

Welcome mate, nice setup. Just a bit jealous.

To send PMs you'll need to have made 10 posts. Just put up some more photos of your gear. We like photos :D

...but I'm in no rush either. When I first started brewing I jumped straight in and bought some things that in hindsight I wouldn't have. When I see content this forum saying things like "please read this first" again and again, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Not going to make the same mistake twice.
