Hi All,
New member intro, 9 years wine making became interested in distilling through a friend. Purchased a T500 with out any research, not happy with the smell or taste on my first run then found this site when looking for better results.
1st run turbo yeast etc, ran still at 55c for 3.5l 92%
2nd run TPW 5kg sugar SG 1.070 finished at 0.99, ran still at 54c for 2.5l 94% very clean sweet smell after 200ml cuts
3rd run, ran 1st run back through to clean, smells great

Site has already helped me out heaps so logged on to say thanks.

Welcome Squid Boy.

Double distilling seems to be the key with the T500 but there's a couple of great threads in the newbies corner that may help improve things even more:

Running a T500, the Proper Way
Kiwistiller's Novice Guide to Cuts and Fractions

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Thanks for the welcome

I would like to make a gin, bought a basket to fit the T500 but reading some post find the plastic tops may not allow it. Checkin out some of the modifications some have done to the T500, may start researching how to make a pot still to fit the boiler.
Heaps of good advice / information here.

Cheers
Squid

Just finished my third run in the T500, ran my 1st run ( for the third time, not confident with my original cuts) combined with my 2nd run, all watered down to 30%. Discarded 3 x 150 jars heads & 2 x 150 tails. Now have 10l watered down to 43% just trying to figure out how to do a gin run with the t500

Mate, sounds like you need some more practice - I only keep 50% or so of collected product, 750ml vs 4ish litres ?? don't sound right....

You won’t be able to do a gin run with the T500 column, it will strip the flavours out. You’ll need a pot still to do a basic distilled gin.
