Hi from Canberra

Hi there, new to Canberra, new to distilling, looking at making a pot still for a keg for some gins and eventually whiskies.

Right now just figuring out how to source all my hardware! Looks like I'll be spending all my free time on gumtree looking for the deals...

Welcome here mate.

You will probably want some sort of reflux still for your gin base.

Thanks! Is that because I'll struggle reaching a high enough ABV%/neutral spirit for gin?

You will have to do many passes through the pot to get the same cleanliness that a reflux will give you.

Some do it but I haven’t tasted the product so can’t comment on that.

Welcome alcomancer.

I’m with Sam on needing a reflux still for your neutral base; it will be far more efficient than multiple runs through the pot.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Would you still use a gin basket in a reflux or would you flavour after? Just thought a reflux would take too much flavour out :wtf:
