Hi All,

Im totally new to this just brought my first still off Ebay and now just starting my first batch. As I said new to this and dont even know if the still I purchased is any good or not, just looked good to me. (instruction manual is in Chinese) so any feedback for it would be good. Here is a pic of it

Cheers Jimmy

Hi Jimmy, welcome to the forum :handgestures-thumbupleft: I had to change your post a little as it is against forum rules to post links to other still builders etc, I replaced the link with a pic however.

Welcome Jimmy. I have never seen that setup before but I am sure one of the extremely skilled contributors on this forum will have some advice. You have come to the right place :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Welcome mate,
Not a terrible looking pot still, the boiler even has a false bottom

You're going to need to heat that externally or add an element

The bkwo your putting down is a great place to start with that still :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Welcome here mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

To be honest it’s a cheap still that will only get you so far.

What are you wanting to make from it?

Im looking to make bourbon/scotch for personal use, nothing fancy just new to this and want to give it try. I heated it on a bbq side burner to boil the water before adding my grains. I found that I couldnt get it up to a boil just a light simmer. I then transferred it to the gas stove top but still only got it to a simmer. The temp gauge gets to 94c with the cooling water running drops back to 89c. I hope this is going to be enough heat for a run.

Can you elaborate on your process?

Doesn’t quite sound right...

Yep, your all good for heating
Please have a good go through the newbie section, especially the safety bits - gas use adds additional risks

Sam - I think he was just boiling water, making his bwko in it - it has the provision for an air lock

Let me extend a welcome to you from a little west of ya, I won't comment to much on your still specifically other than to say it's a basic pot that will run fairly slow. Do read the newbie section and the guide to cuts and fractions. I would recommend getting copper pipe to extend your output spout and have a play around. I'm sure you will have fun with it and find it a handy tool to learn the basics but will find it a bit of a toy and out grow it quickly :handgestures-thumbupleft:
