AD searchHi all I'm Katrina.
I've just started hanging out in the rabbit hole of home distilling. Last week I set up a Turbo 500 and have a first wash from the kit fermenting. Ive had the chance to look through forums and recipes while I've been waiting for the wash and it'll probably be the last time that I use turbo mixes. Next up I'll be looking into TPW and FFV. I'm a maker by nature so it was inevitable for me to wander this way. I'm happy making neutrals for gins and liquors but would like to branch into a pot for whiskies and rums. Looking forward to reading your posts and trying out the recipes.

G-day Kat and welcome to the forum,love Melbourne my bro lives there,the library section has some good reading too,there is a lot ta learn so just take it steady and slow and Iam sure you will be surprising yaself soon,with some home made spirit.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I am so glad I was given the heads up regarding foreshots and heads. I might've killed my whole family! But the day has been saved. I'll let you know how it all goes.

G’day kat. The best advice I got when I joined here was use that turbo for a cleaning run an keep it for cleaning or throw it away :handgestures-thumbupleft: make a tpw for ur 2nd to drink. Then try a wheatbix wash an then u really going down the rabbithole :teasing-tease:

Sounds like your reading is paying off already, good work. I moved from a reflux still and neutral to a pot still and brown spirits fairly quickly and haven't looked back.

Welcome.
My tips from a newbie to a newbie for the T5 are:
Throw a couple of pieces of copper pipe into the urn to mitigate burning
Consider using a voltage controller. Use the VC from when you turn the still on, not just when it’s near temp
See the recent thread re. Packing the column
Try to reduce the sediment transfer as much as possible from the brewing vat to the urn
Clean the column regularly
Good luck

- equipment: 4 plate 6" copper bubbler, 6 plate 4" glass bubbler with 500mm packed section three way thumper sitting on a 50 ltr keg boiler with 6000watts, 2" pot still and a 2" boka.
