G’day Aussie Distillers

G’day all, Happy New Year. I ended up with T500 and turbo yeast etc from a mate that could not be bothered. I took recommendations from here and used copper for product pipe and ran it as per advice on here. Next is copper top for column instead of the plastic one, TPW and possibly make the column longer. Then make a pot still top for the boiler and get a voltage regulator and make some rum.

Sounds like you got it sussed. I doubt you will go back after you make tpw, ffv,Wbab etc.. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Welcome to AD Craiguzzi.

Have a look in the pot still section, you'll find some great ideas to get you thinking. I'm a fan of the pelican style on those T500 boilers myself as it balances the unit out a bit. Especially if you go with a leibig rather than a "shotgun" condenser.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome :greetings-waveyellow:

Just be careful modifying your rig mate. Ensure pressure can't build up etc etc. Make sure it's safe before running it.

Good luck

Nice mod craig :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Have you got any details, pics on how you joined the top copper to the t500 column?
Plus can it still be put back as the original reflux or is it now a permanent pot?

Doubleuj, yes I can use it as reflux still also. I want to take top off column for cleaning occasionally so I used silicone on outside of this joint and reflux condenser tube. Selleys 401.

Latest modifications to still for easy cleaning of RC coil, just coil inlet requires 401 now.

How long till you convert it to not needing any sellys 401?
While it is a silicone longevity is questionable.

Yes I stuffed up a bit, the silicone has to be reapplied after dismantling to clean RC coil. I don’t have a fitting to go through the column. Any ideas where I might find one? Ideally another fitting as on the outlet on the bottom and then have the inlet below the top tri clamp fitting, that way I could easily attach a gin basket.

Anyone know where I can get a fitting for 1/4” pipe to go through the column?

Do a search for a 6mm stainless bulkhead fitting

What exactly are you trying to do? A botanicals basket should go at the top there somewhere just before the PC

Yes
As I wrote previously here I stuffed up a bit didn’t have fitting, so when I have the fitting I will put the inlet below the top tri clamp, then I will be able to fit a gin basket between the column and the top.
