Gooday

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Gooday

Postby gixxer » Wed Mar 06, 2019 6:25 pm

Hi all, hoping to have spare time in the near future and always intended to do the home still thing. My target will be scotch either essence based or single malt or both. This forum has a wealth of information a perfect place to learn and research what equipment to make or buy, but for now I have a lot of reading to do.

Noice, and howdy. You'll find pretty much all you'll need here. I had a 250 and a katakana in the early 80's, man that 250 was a great commuter, had it for years. Took my wife to le mars classes on back o that lil 250...old memories, nearly 30 odd years ago now

Welcome gixxer.

It's definitely worthwhile taking your time and doing your research so you start off with the right gear to make what you want to make.

On the whiskey side of things I would recommend skipping the essences and heading straight for the cereal based washes to start with then maybe look at going all grain once you have the hang of things.

A pot still or a bubbler is the way to go for flavoured spirits and if you go for a modular design, you can start off with the pot still and upgrade to a bubbler later by adding the plated sections as you desire. Having said that, many a good whiskey has been made with a humble pot still alone.

Are you looking to build your own still of buy something off the shelf?

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome gixxer! :greetings-waveyellow:
I would also recommend jumping straight into cereal washes or AG if your really keen to make something special. You won't look back thats for sure.
