Hi there,

My name is Slide.

I'm looking at moving from home brew beer into home distilling, and I have already spent a number of hours reading the information available here on this forum. Thanks for all the info so far, and I hope you'll be forgiving of my newbie questions going forward - I promise to search first!

:)

Welcome slide :greetings-waveyellow:
Your beer brewing background should come in handy.
Whats the drink of choice you would like to make?

I am thinking I'd like to get something close to an Irish Whisky like Jamesons. However am leaning towards a reflux still to start with, and thinking I'll see how close I can get using essences and/or oak chips and the like.

Have done a fair bit of reading already and think I am right to skip the Turbo products, though I was initially impressed by their youtube videos. Leaning towards doing a TPW. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If you want brown spirits grab a pot especially if you have all grain beer experience. I reckon you will be disappointed with essences.. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Haven't done all grain brewing yet. Just kits and bits with extra hop boils etc.

The purchase of equipment will give me a boiler that I can use for home brew as well, probably look at doing some brew in a bag type recipes.

Any thoughts on this unit? I've searched and found a thread about the Pot Still version, but not much mention of the Reflux AlcoEngine still.

I totally agree with bluc... i started with a still very similar to this one and outgrew it very quickly. For me the essences weren't really doing it. Dont get me wrong, they make a nice drink some of them but not the orthentic flavour i was chasing.
If you are at all handy with your hands a simple pot isn't to complex to make. It would open a whole new demention to your spirit flavour wise. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
