G'Day

Hello! Newbie Distiller and Novice brewer here. Just got a robobrew and reflux still for my birthday so will be putting down my first AG's and first wash over the next week or so.

Will be doing a straight TPW since it doesn't look like the Turbos are endorsed much here.

I have a single fermenter and a fermentation fridge. Beer will always take priority in the fermentation fridge (sorry guys) but wondering if I should get a second fermenter for fermenting wash non-temperature controlled? No room for a second fridge.

I'm open to buying another inkbird and already have a heat pad for winter (located in Newcastle). Thoughts? I know fermentation is exothermic so maybe I'll just run out today and buy that second fermenter and see how it goes. Temps are 15-20* at the moment so should be fine. Worst comes to worst I can run the heat pad under it at nights.

Also if anyone has seen any tips/instructions for boiling with the Robobrew please point me to them.

Thanks.

PS. Cheers for the newbies corner. Really easy to follow!

We dont need to be as fussy as the beer making guys with temps or sterility.
Oh and welcome :handgestures-thumbupleft: :laughing-rolling:

Hi there :greetings-waveyellow: welcome to the forum.

Like stig said fermenting spirits is way easier and far more forgiving. A heat pad will be fine just wrap the fermenter in a planket to keep it warm.

Good luck

Welcome tomasswood.

Definitely grab yourself another fermenter so you can have a beer and a spirit wash on the go at the same time!

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

G'day mate, and welcome.
As a fellow brewer, I reckon its good practice to keep your stillin stuff sterile (although not really needed as the still kills of any infections). Like brewing yeast, as you experiment you will find that yeasts will change your profile. I used to use bakers yeast for my whiskey but have recently switched to USW-6 which has made a significant difference to the taste. Welcome to the rabbit hole... :handgestures-thumbupleft:
