Hi folks, I got board a couple of weeks ago so I built a still in the shed. My first try was a cornflake mash that turned out surprisingly well. It's starting to cool down in qld now so I have to find a way of keeping the mash at an even temperature as her indoors doesn't want it in the house again. Great site full of information, keep up the good work.

Welcome, taffy4x4.
I use these brew belts. They raise the bucket temperature and keep it steady.
Amazon carries 'em.

G'day and welcome.

Yep heater pad or belt is the easiest. Aquarium heaters can be ok but look around this site first some of us have had a few issues with them. Keep the fermenter wrapped up in a blanket will also help.

Welcome taffy.

I've used heat pads on my smaller fermenters and heat belts in conjunction with a thermostat control on my large one. Either wil keep your yeaties nice and toasty.

As woodduck said, it definitely helps to wrap your fermenters in a blanket. Also worth keeping them off the floor if it's concrete.

I will be trialing aquarium heaters with built in thermostats on my next ferment.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Hiya Taffy.
My childhood dog was called Taffy and I was brought up on that nasty poem.
I’ll be hiding my legs of beef, just in case. :)

When I lived in SE QLD and was brewing a lot of beer, I used to brew in a 60 litre brewer with a fish tank heater inserted about 6inches from the bottom.
I bought a rubber(silicon probably better but where can you get it) grommet the appropriate size and a spade drill bit to match.
Surprisingly, it never leaked but did make cleaning a little bit harder.
Just making sure I didn’t break it.
Other than that it was pretty idiot proof.
Cheers AA
