Just popped in to do a quick introduction.

After looking at some home brewing equipment and stumbling across some distilling hardware that piqued my interest... here I am.

I am reading as much as I can at the moment before looking at buying a still. I am in no way shape or form capable of building one, unfortunately.
I will most likely also drag my hubby along for the ride, as he is much more technically minded and capable than I am.

Looks like an incredibly fun hobby, so excited to learn as much as possible at this point.

Just also wanted to say thanks for all the books available in The Distillers Library - pretty awesome stuff in there! as well as all the other information being shared.

Hopefully with all the information available I will be able to decide on exactly what I would like to get i.t.o. stills to get me started off with.

Good place to start is what you like to drink. Tha'll give you an idea of what still you'd need ... from there comes the purchase or the build or a combination of the 2.

Welcome Dee. There is certainly lots to learn about distilling. I have just bought a 2"boka from 5 Star as an upgrade from my air still. I will post some pictures when I get time. That type of still might suit you.

I have been browsing the shop and the stuff looks pretty amazing.

If you eventually want to make gin, you'll need a still with a bit of versatility to it. You'll need to be able to make a decent neutral base first up then you'll need to be able to do the botanical flavouring. I can recommend going with something modular so you can reconfigure it for whatever purpose you need.

Things to think about are budget and how much time and space you have in which to run your still. Bear in mind you'll need other equipment like fermenter etc.

Also think about how much booze you actually want to make. There's no point getting a large boiler and still if you only want a few litres of gin or vodka every now and then.
