Hi all. First pot still run with AG wash.

Hi All. Been doing AG brewing for a year or so and just got my first pot still. Love single malt so my mission is to go for gold. Appreciate all the great advise from the members on the topics I've read so far. Did my stripping run last weekend and got 2.4 litres at 40%ABV. First spirit run this weekend. Bit unsure on the process but excited to see how it comes out. Reading I should dilute back to 28% but does that need to be with distilled water or can you just use tap water.

Gday mate, welcome to the forum, like dB said tap water will be fine, you’re not trying to get the water out in your final spirit run anyway.
Got a pic of your still? We love pics around here :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi mate welcome :greetings-waveyellow:

40% is fine mate but 2.4 ltrs isn't much to run on its own. You want to make sure your element is covered enough that it won't dry out after all the alc is distilled off. Usually you wpuld do a few strip runs until you have say 15-20 ltrs of 40% before doing a spirit run. You could dilute back to 20 but I wouldn't risk it as you may loose some of the flavour you've worked so hard to get with the ag process.

My advice is to be patient and do a couple more ferments and strip runs.

Just be careful of things like newish garden hose those 'new plastic' tastes can carry over...whats your grain of choice for single malt..
