Newbie from SW WA

G'day all,

Another newbie to the forum, and distilling.
Done a fair bit of brewing over the years and thought I would have a go at making some spirits.
Heading out this morning to buy a HBS still to get me started, with the view to making a full home made kit later if I get hooked.

I have had a bit of a look through the site and found the tips and advice from members, and particularly the mentors, very helpful in making a decision on getting started.

Thanks to all. looking forward to sharing experiences with other members as I'm learning.

Cheers

Welcome mate, what spirits are you wanting to make and what still are you looking at?

Also when posting just hit submit once, your first two posts have been doubled up which I have fixed.

And welcome again :handgestures-thumbupleft:

G'day Sam,
Looking at just some neutral spirit initially. I am going to buy a basic t500 copper reflux set up to get started, with a view to making my own pot still arrangement later with research and a bit of experience.
Thanks for the welcome, and yes, I hit the back button and it posted my post a second time in each case. So I learnt something already. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi Southernman
Welcome to the forum. There is lots to read and learn.
If you are looking at a starter still it is worth talking to Andrew at 5 star. I have a 2 " boka and a 2" pot still (recent acquisitions). Some people on this forum have had a T500 and their advice to me was to look at the boka instead. The boka and pot still are high quality and should last for years.

Cheers

Welcome Southernman

The T500 is a functional still and will produce good neutral however if you're looking to make neutral on a small scale, you really cannot go past one of the 5 Star 2" bokas which will work really well on top of the T500 style boiler or a larger keg style boiler should you later want to up the ante. Some of the parts can even be re-used when you eventually want to upgrade the still. If you do go down the T500 route, make sure you read the 3 threads linked in this post from Newbies Corner - they'll start you off on the right foot.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.
