G'day.
Have been reading these boards for a while before deciding to take the plunge and have found them a veritable mine of information - so thanks to all contributors, noobs and pro's alike from the outset.
I'll be using a T500 with copper column, arriving next week, when I'll be fermenting a sugar wash with Still Spirits pure turbo system yeast, and for comparison a TPW with EC1118.
I'll then be experimenting with a few flavourings - classic London gin, dark rum, gin essence.
Once I've gained some experience, will upgrade with alembic pot still for something a little more adventurous.

Cheers
Steve

Welcome.
Hope your not in a hurry for the TPW, EC1118 will take at least a month if not more to ferment out.

Welcome Steve.

Your TPW is definitely going to take a while to finish as that yeast is a slow fermenter for sure. Baker’s yeast is more than capable of producing good results with this recipe and and is much cheaper too.

There are far better options for a pot still than the still spirits alembic one. It is an overpriced under performer. Have a look at the 5 Star 2” pot still instead if you need something off the shelf that won’t disappoint you.

Cheers,
Prof Green.

Hi Steve

Welcome to the forum. Distilling is a lot of fun and there is heaps to learn. I have a FSD 2" boka and 2"pot still. I am only a newbie but happy to answer any questions you might have.

Cheers
Carol

Thanks Stig, I'll reconsider my choice of yeast.

Thanks Prof. Too late to change order now for T500, but will look at the 5* when i'm ready to move on.
Just seen there's a whole section on yeast, so I'll have a read up (dried or fresh?)
Cheers

Cheers mate. Pick up the T500 tomorrow. I've read opinions on it, but it was easy to get hold of in GB, so I thought why not?

Hey mate, I started with the t500 as did a lot of people here :handgestures-thumbupleft: learn to ignore their instructions and run her the right way and it’ll make you a nice little drop. Then, upgrade :laughing-rolling: :handgestures-thumbupleft:
