Ahoy Mates! Missouri aboard

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Ahoy Mates! Missouri aboard

Postby Windrow » Sun Nov 10, 2019 11:33 am

Just joined and really enjoy the large copper many here use, seems the 4" and 6" are not as common in America as in Australia at the scrappy. Just to compare, I recently ordered a new 20 foot length of 4" copper ( 6.1 meter x 101mm diameter) for $620 total.. our scrappy had nothing, even the big home stores here barely carry 50mm copper tube.

By the way, I am from Missouri, USA and read almost everything on the "mean site" and decided to join the friendly one. I even have a few American White Oaks growing on my property that I toast and char for bourbon, it also works a treat since I am a BBQ enthusiast.

Other than that, I am planning to build a 101mm shotgun with 21, 13mm tubes that will be 915mm long, for a stripper. Wanted to have excess condenser size because it will be used on a wood fired boiler. I have lots of wood and I would get holler'd off the mean site for even mentioning my plans.

Thanks for having me here!

G'day mate welcome to the forum.

Good luck with the build.

Can't say I love the fire idea. Please be bloody careful and have a good look into safety before jumping in.

Welcome Windrow.

I have to say I agree with woodduck on the fire issue. Unlike gas or electricity which are both dangerous enough, there is a much higher danger of ignition due to the possibility of of an ember or a spark flying up. Please do be extremely careful and all of have adequate ventilation and all of the appropriate fire safety equipment in place.

Good luck with your build and as with all builds around here, we'll need pics!

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

That's gonna be one serious condenser. How big is your boiler?

I should have mentioned my plan is a ground-hog type still, in the ground with a frontal fire-box. I am completely safe and have lots of experience smoking and boiling whole hogs with hardwood fire. I appreciate all and any concerns.

Well my posts keep getting edited, so I expect my link to cheap stainless distilling parts on aussie ebay is not welcome here.

Just tell me.... Why erase without explaination?

RC Al, I live on a steep incline, a ground-hog type still is perfect to get a bit of rocket-stove action with an endless supply of fuel.

Ground hog stills were a popular design in the Southern US, usually dug into the sides of river banks.

Yes, the groundhog type still is just like an offset smoker, but buried in the ground, on an incline with front flue control and a rear stovepipe flue.

More inclined, but basically what Popcorn Sutton made in his "Last Damn Run" video

It's like learning a different language, but we're all here speak the language of fermentation and distillation.

Hi Windrow, the link you posted isn’t allowed as it breached the advertising rules of the forum. One of the other mods must have removed it and probably sent you a PM but as you’re not up to 10 posts yet you cannot access private messages yet.

Not sure if I'll stay here since I am already catching static.

Knew this site was sponsored by 5star, so I read the Distillers Warehouse rules. Didn't see where AU Ebay links were banned in the rules.

Am I missing something?

No need to chuck your toys out of the pram there champ, the community guidelines (which I think you need to read and agree to when you sign up) state:
Commercial advertising.

Commercial advertising is exclusively reserved for 5 Star Distilling

Any post deemed advertising for "others" will be removed, as will repeat offenders, the forum admin, moderators & staff reserve the right to remove any such breech at their discretion without notice.

We do not allow linkage to stills on ebay or any other HBS.... PERIOD!

This is a great site with many helpful people, you just need to relax a little, respect the forum owners and follow the rules.

Now, have you got any pics of these groundhog stills that you can post here ? We love pics.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.
