having a crack

Hi all just got myself involved in this wonderful and interesting craft. I have had a few not so nice experiences with some of the home brewed offerings out there
and had convinced myself wasn't worth the effort until a mate at work let me try his. What a difference in quality, so I have jumped in.
I have built myself a 3" copper pot still with shotgun condenser on 50l keg. Put down a few rum brews,1 which is nice even after sitting on oak dominoes for only a month.
The other rum wash I tried ( molasses only)with 2 generations came out bloody disgusting tasted like pure metho, after much reading and then more reading I have put it down to maybe contamination of the molasses with produce store used drums. Anyway so begins the journey already talking myself into a bubbler haha

Welcome Dave.

We'll need to see pics of your still. We love pics around here.

I''ve only ever done one rum which was a feed store molasses and I thought I had cocked up but after a good amount of time on oak it turned out to be a real cracker. I'm sure some our more seasoned rummies will offer up some words of wisdom shortly.

Have you read the thread on cuts in Newbies Corner? Making good cuts is the single-most important part of this craft (IMO) and rum can be difficult to get right when you first start.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.
