9th distill & hello

Postby Chriss » Mon Mar 16, 2020 3:18 pm

Hi,

Our ninth batch finally was distilled on the weekend. Which was a turbo sugar wash. Using the boiler and T500 stainless steel column.
The copper was abused from all the still spirits additives, the majority of saddles were black, some brown. Some of the stainless saddles also had black smears.
We were drunk Saturday night and forgot about the lemons in the freezer, opps so they made the cut to a citric acid wash for the copper saddles instead as a vodka mixer. The lovely blue colour. Interesting material is copper, is it egg whites that turn pink in colour when exposed to copper?

For the tenth wash we wanted to escape the turbo stuff. Thus we decided to join Aussie Distillers to learn more about the obvious.
We decided on the TPW wash from the Tried and Tested section and read some of the progress updates from members. Nice.
Opening Gravity was 1111 with 6kg of sugar. That is the only change to the recipe on this forum we made. We hope it does not stress the yeast. Estimated distill date either 28th or 29th of March.

Cheers and happy brewing.

Welcome mate, one thing you will see repeated here is "quality over quantity". The tried and proven recipes are there exactly because they have been tried and proven by multiple people.

Good work finding the forum, all your questions will certainly be answered.

Big question, are you doing cuts?

Welcome to AD Chriss.

Have a read of this and the threads linked within to help you get the best from you T500.

I can only echo Sam's words on quality over quantity. There's no real advantage to increasing the amount of sugar in the standard TPW recipe.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.
