Hi Everybody

Thank you everyone for the information I have found here first of all, sooo much to learn. You guys have been a wealth of knowledge. I got into this about 2 months as I could never really find the flavours I have been looking for and have been making my own. I have been mixing with wood chips, glycerine and some basic spices. So far everything is turning out great except for my vodka but that I bring down to wash and inexperience.

I have the T500 and have had a lot of success except for my last run. I ran it at about 50-55 and it only came out at 75%, got me thinking if it was too hot in the still somehow. If anyone could assist I would be grateful.

I am also contemplating making Absinthe but I want to make it around 70% but my filter won't do above 40. Any good tips for filtering high ABV?

I have started off with a plain sugar wash and Turbo yeast and the Fuselex filter. Finding that too be a very slow process but that is just part of the fun.

My spirits taste great as long as there is a strong essence. Vodka is proving difficult though, I am fermenting 2 25l washes a week for while I learn.

Haven't got into cuts as yet, I am a complete newb but so far okay.

Turbo will do that. try wbab or tpw or ffv all in tried and proven..volume down but quality up. For any sugar wash stick to 1kg sugar per 5l water..

Ditch the turbos and start doing a weet-bix wash
50 LITRE WASH
700 GRAMS Weet-Bix (crushed)
10 KG WHITE SUGAR
80 GRAMS BAKERS YEAST (rehydrated)
TOP UP TO 50 L MARK.

This will get you making some nice smooth vodka but your going to need to make cuts.

If you have a look in recipe section everything bluc said will make perfect sense.
From what these guys have learnt and shared turbo yeast pushes the yeast to its limits so produces some off tastes. This will be come very evident in none flavoured spirits such as vodka. Listen to them mate they have made heaps of mistakes to learn what they know, they are happy to share that so we don’t have to make those mistakes ourselves, unless we choose to of course

Because you havent been doing cuts this could attribute to your lower Abv. The more you go into tails (lower % alcohol) the lower your overall Abv will be when combined.
If you just keep just the hearts your Abv should remain higher.
In order to make a smooth, clean and funkless spirit cuts are crucial. Funk or early tails in moderation can however be a good thing in some cases. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
