New guy from Adelaide

Postby BarneyB » Mon Sep 14, 2020 6:07 pm

G'day all, just found this place on the weekend, looks like a lot of great info. I was given a Turbo T 500 kit as a "going away" present from work, yet to give it a run. Currently reading up on all the traps to avoid on here before I stuff something up, do not want to waste good alcohol.
Regards, Barney.

Welcome to AD Barney.

As well as reading the "how to run a T500 the proper way" thread, also have a read of this and the other threads liked within. They'll set you off on the right track.

Ditch any turbo products that came with your still and pop a TPW or one of the cereal based washes on to ferment whilst you read up. You'll find the recipes in the tried and proven section.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Thanks for the welcome and tips guys, I have 4 weeks work left to shut down our factory and accept forced retirement then I will be into it. Meantime I will read as much as I can here. Don't like making mistakes and seems I already made one with the choice of still they bought for me. My regular drink is Wild Turkey and I was told the Wild Eagle essence would emulate this. Have to see how we go...

Once you get right into it mate who knows you might even get a pot still attachment for the T500 and start really experimenting with bourbons.
No mistakes just limits to what each still type can do. It is all learning and experience and many here still like to use their T500 for specialist runs

Welcome BarneyB.

The T500 can still make a pretty good drink, just need to run it correctly.

Personally, I found that most of the essences from HBS are are bit on the sweet side but I've never tried the Wild Eagle one. Most people here will tell you to get a pot still attachment and a power controller and then ferment a CFW or BWKO wash, which will make you a much better drink than a flavoured neutral.
