Hi all,

Really enjoying reading the forum and have learnt a lot already. :techie-typing:

I have been more of a car/bike guy in the past but am finding this new hobby very relaxing.

Have done a Turbo run and TPW run and man they are worlds apart. Tried out doing cuts on both but the Turbo run was not much point doing cuts as it is all kinda the same (bad), could clearly make cuts with TPW by taste but only vaguely by smell.

I am already considering adding an extension to the column, how tall is optimal for a boka (2”)?

Welcome mate

1.5-2m of packed is a great height for the 2", much past that is of little return

Are you doing strping runs or running product through twce?
(Watered to 40% in ether case)

Haven’t done a stripping run yet but intending to give it a go with the next batch.

Thanks for the advice.

So I tried my first stripping run the other day with all the packing removed from the column ready to shut it down if it didn’t work but seemed to go alright, I suppose it is not that different to a pot still in that configuration. It did run a lot hotter and faster than usual though so for my second stripping run I added just a little packing back to the column to see if this made any difference. I felt it was better on the second run.

You are on your way now mate :)
It’s possible that the second run felt better because you had an idea what to expect. The first one is always going to be a bit nerve racking :)

Sounds good mate.
In pot/strip mode on a boka you can remove the packing like you did and fully open the take-off tap. You dont need any reflux on stripping runs :handgestures-thumbupleft: this will speed up the job for ya.

So doing my final run and got to a point where I could hear it trying to boil over then temp would suddenly drop a few degrees (guess when it actually touched the cooling) and I had to shutdown briefly to let it settle down. I think I am going to need a power controller as from that point I was continuously having to keep it under control and also felt it was running too fast. The more I tried to slowdown the output the more it seemed to want to boil over.
