Newbie looking for a beginner rum kit

Postby Dave_S » Fri Dec 04, 2020 10:55 am

1st post.

I'm looking for a very basic complete kit to see if I like making my own rum. I like Bundarberg and would like something similar.

Can someone guide me on what I should start with ?

TIA.

Welcome Dave,
Theres a number of ways to make rum (but why Bundy?)
You can go pot still molasses or make neutral and add essence

Pot still is about as basic as it gets and will make a good rum :handgestures-thumbupleft:

That’s no good mate, he wants Bundy. :))

Something to remember, if you make a neutral and add essence you can drink almost straight away.
When I made rum it was horrible, now it has spent some time on oak and 12 month ageing it is drinking nicely.

^ This. I almost cried the first time I tasted my rum straight out the still. Horrid. Over a year on oak and it's :handgestures-thumbupleft:

An easy neutral plus essence will give you a Bundy-ish taste if that's your thing.
