Hi swill makers and the like.
New to the site, and new to distilling. Came across this site like many others its seems, from the US based site. Actually stumbled across it doing a search for copper suppliers in Sydney thru google.
Anyways, enough ramblings.
Love to drink Bourbons, Rums, Whiskeys etc, and love the histories of each, including the mainstream brewers. Also love all things handmade, metal working and the pleasure of creation.
Almost became an apprentice boilermaker, but became a diesel mechanic instead. Have many years of metal working under my belt, and was taught to cut/weld/heat by an old school boiler maker. My ol' man is a hands on guy also, so plenty of experience between the 2 of us.
So far, what i do know is, i want to make a pot still. Not much for the neutrals, mainly flavours for me. But in saying that, i love the complexity of the Bokas, VM/LM hybrid machines, to the point of semi-Steampunk looking devices. Need to get my head around distilling basics before i knuck down to the big stuff.
Aquired a good condition keg, currently being used to prop a project motorcycle off the ground. Hope to use it soon as a boiler for my still.
Keen to learn this old trade, and make some 'net buddies' at the same time.
Staying in touch,
Robo
