Hi from south coast nsw!

G'day to all at AD!

Everyone at work thinks I've become very antisocial as I've been staring at my phone constantly for the last two weeks. But really I've just become obsessed with all the good info u guys have on here and have been trying to soak it all up before I dive into the world of making quality spirits.
I have my first wash done (turbo that came with still) and am waiting to have a day free to do my first run on the pure distilling reflux. I have an interest in whisky so will eventually look at making a pot still to go on my boiler, but my wife likes vodka so I'm starting with the reflux to keep her from objecting to my new hobby.
I'll let u know how the first run goes.
Anyone else near jervis bay in nsw??

Thanks jayD.
Do you think one of your 2" pot stills would work on my pure distilling 25lt boiler?
It's 2000w I think.

It would have to be made to suit but it can be done.

Welcome Cu29

A cunning plan to appease the Misses :handgestures-thumbupleft: She will love the Vodka '.......now you need to make her a TPW and give her a blind A/B test with the Turbo and she ( like my Misses) will forgive you for all your research time on the forums :laughing-rolling:

First ever run completed last night! Was great to finally get in on the action.
Just ran the turbo that came with the still.
25lt 6kg sugar wash

I didn't get as much as most people seem to get though.
I tossed first 150mls
then collected in 250ml cuts.
First 2 cuts I assumed wound be heads. (tried smelling them straight from still but just scored a pounding headache for my efforts- what a newbie hey!)
The next 4 hopefully are hearts- smelt a bit cleaner
I was half way into the 7th cut and the temp flew up to 83 (had been sitting on 78.6 until then)
Marked this jar as tails and collected one last 250ml jar- temp was on 90 by then so shut it down. The ABV of the last cut was 70%

Should I have kept going to get more tails for feints run?

In total I got 2 litres (approx 92%- including heads and tails). This is not much right?
My wash was at 0.990 so it had fermented well (12.6% wash)

But I am happy with first run.
Will do smell and taste tomorrow after airing.

Just put my first TPW down, can't wait to taste the difference.
Cheers all!

Gday mate,

Welcome aboard :handgestures-thumbupleft:

2 litres @ 92% will equal 4.6 litres @ 40% when you break it down to drinking strength. :-B

Big drink that, in anyones language :D
