I've been a long time ale home brewer and am finally making the switch to spirits (hoping to try making a few different types).
The info contained in this forum is priceless for a newb like me getting into it.
After doing heaps of reading here, especially in the newb section and tech centre, I'm gonna try building a copper/glasser.
At the moment I'm just getting all the gear together to do it. Hopefully in the next month or 2 I'll start a thread about the build.
Some of the things I've been doing so far have been a little different to the other 2 glassers in the plated column section; using the smallest Primus lantern glasses (80x80), 3mm sheet (yes....it is a pain in the arse to drill 1.5mm holes in) and M10 304 threaded rod. The downcomers are 12.7mm with 19mm cups on the end. I've been looking at using expanded PTFE for the gaskets, but the price nearly caused heart failure........silicone (cooking mat) or EPDM (pond liner) might have to do.
There is also going to be a packed section (3" x 200mm copper), that can be swapped in and out, below the RC (3" x 80mm with 6 x 19mm pipes).
The rest of it is still being worked out. I'll keep doing lots more reading and hopefully won't have to ask many questions.
