Finally registered

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Finally registered

Postby WicketNut » Wed Jul 02, 2014 7:54 pm

Hello all, I have been reading as a guest for a while and love the help, advice, resources ... All of it really.

I have been using an air still for years (I make the spirits and a mate makes beer, then we go camping in summer and enjoy). Just got sick of drinking petrol and decided to research more.

In then end, I realize I simply need to learn. TPW is a great example Of needing my eyes opened. :scared-eek:

Decided to buy a T500 as part of the learning, knowing this is a step along the path. Besides, very limited for space.

Apologies in advance, I am not on any other blogs, forums or other such and don't know the rules etc (but have read yours here).

Probably won't post much - too much reading to be done.

Cheers and thanks Mac and other volunteers. Luv you work.

Welcome mate, glad you found us.

A T500 and TPW, along with good cuts, will have you producing some nice neutral spirit :)

Welcome mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

A rough location in your profile can help immensely for people to be able to offer local knowledge.

Good luck on your distilling journey ;-)

G'day Wicketnut

I started on a Home Brew shop still too as did many here :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Sometimes rough and ready but will satisfy the urge ...Like Zac said , run a TPW though it and you'll be sweet ....and remember ,the slower the still puts out ,the better the booze :romance-kisscheek: So that means through out the instructions that come with the still and ask the fellas here

Cheers for that. I read the entire "build of the month" last night and reckon this is what I been looking for.

Hey WN
How are you finding the T500? What do intend to produce with it?

Sorry, a bit slack on the reply. I am too busy reading everyone else's stuff to put much on.

The difference b/t a T500 to an Airstill? Massive. Produced a bottle of HBS flavored bourbon for my mum the other day (ok, it was for me to drink at their place) and she was blown away. Perhaps a reflection of the previous stuff rather then the new stuff :))

At the moment I just use the HBS flavours, and that gets me by. I couldn't build anything (got to know your limitations) so I am happy with a couple of TPW bubbling away. But all this great infothers got me thinkin ...

So I have ordered a 4" pot still and gin caddy from Mac. :techie-typing: I think a few gin experiments, then a crack at the BWKO.

Each year my family goes camping with a few families. One brews beer and I brew spirits. Last summer he made massive improvements, including a camp-portable-keg-and-cooling-system, that was perfect for the beach. Smashed me. Time to strike back ...

Hey WN
Good move mate going with Macs gear you can't go wrong. I haven't got any of his stills but the ferrules clamps etc i have got from 5s are 1st rate precision gear to the point I'm about to put in a large order for my next build and have no hesitation going with 5S again. The modular aspect is so versatile in buying the 4" pot, you have actually started a bubbler build as well. just add the modules when it suits you and it will. Better get busy with the new pot if you want nicely aged spirits for Xmas.
Good luck Mick.
