Welcome Green
Glad to have you aboard. :D :D

Never done mead... but...
You will find most things you need to know by using the search function.

There is heaps to learn here... once you think you have a handle on it.... Mac will come up with something new and throw you a curve ball.

It's all part of the fun. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Welcome mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Mead isn't really in the distilling world, all I know is that it takes a looong time to ferment

Welome Green

made a few batches of Mead years ago ...wine only .....didn't distill back then .

It does take ages to mature .Nice when it does :handgestures-thumbupleft:

My old Mans neighbor makes Honey washes and distills them .The honey comes over and is very strong .Not too good for neutrals

hi green. welcoem to the forum

from what i have heard mead is a pain in the arse to make. it takes a very long time to ferment, and mead as a drink usually tastes less than average anyway :laughing-rolling: i dont think mead is usually distilled anyway

Thanks all
Well ive already learnt that u can distill mead bit its no longer called mead. So im going to give it a go and see if i can carry the honey taste over into a vodka. Just trying to work out how to filter it cos activated carbon filter takes away taste and oder.

You'd be better off running it through a pot still and not filtering it, mate...you'll carry more honey flavour over ;-)

Welcome bloke,

be interested to see how you go with mead. It's tricky I'm told. Be good to hear from time to time as it progresses.

enjoy!

This document, from the American National Honey Board makes mention of Mead Brandy, where you distill mead and then backsweeten with more honey to bring the sweetness back up
